Two people were hurt in a serious crash Thursday morning that closed Highway 151 in Fairfax.
Authorities said three vehicles collided around 8:15 a.m. on the highway near the intersection of Williams Boulevard on the south edge of town.
Iowa State Patrol Lt. Randy Jones said a southbound sport-utility vehicle was preparing to turn left onto Williams Boulevard, and a semi-trailer truck behind it could not stop in time. The semi struck the rear of the SUV and pushed it into the path of a northbound pickup that was pulling an enclosed trailer, Jones said.
An adult female and an adult male were hurt and transported to Cedar Rapids hospitals. Jones said their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. Two other people in the pickup and the semi driver were not injured, authorities said.
The SUV sustained major damage and debris was littered across the highway. The pickup went off the highway and down an embankment before it stopped near a utility pole.
The accident shut down the highway for more than 90 minutes, and traffic was rerouted.
