Shooter influenced by those around him
Jan. 25, 2011 11:11 pm
A letter in Thursday's Gazette (“Direct blame at the shooter”) blamed the tragic shooting in Arizona on a single individual. There is no doubt in my mind that he is guilty. What troubles me, however, is the writer blames him and him alone.
I believe someone with a troubled mind can easily be influenced by those around him, and by what he sees and hears. An excellent example are the Middle Eastern women who strap themselves with bombs and commit suicide taking many others with them. It is known that many of these women have been abused and told the only way they can redeem themselves and their families is by such a loyal act.
Are these women alone to blame for their acts of terror? I think not.
