Miller turns down Prairie, stays at Solon

Kevin Miller will be wearing black and orange next season. That's Solon black and orange. The Spartans' head football coach was offered the same position at Cedar Rapids Prairie but has officially turned it down, he confirmed Friday night."I'm not going to lie about it," Miller said. "Prairie and I have been in discussions for the last two or three weeks. I toured their facilities and had several conversations with (Athletics Director) Rocky (Bennett). It's a great opportunity. But personally, it's just not the right fit for me and my family."Miller is 105-15 in 10 years at Solon, including 54-1 the last four seasons. Solon has won four consecutive state championships, this past season in Class 3A.The Prairie job would seem to be appealing to Miller because it is a step up in competition and the coach would not have had to move his family. But hometown ties won out in the end."I don't need to coach at the 4A level to fulfill myself or my ego," Miller said. "This is where my roots are. This is where I'm supposed to be."
