IOWA CITY - The University of Iowa's graduate student union is planning a rally to urge state officials to increase compensation for graduate students.
The event will take place at 4:30 p.m. Monday on the UI Pentacrest, just before union officials meet with representatives from the state Board of Regents.
The current contract proposal includes a small tuition scholarship increase and cuts to graduate employee health benefits. Union leaders say they want the state to pay for 100 percent of tuition for teaching assistants and research assistants at the university.
