MOUNT VERNON - For the second time in a month, Cornell College's Kirkwood Donavin (Salt Lake City, Utah/West) has been named the Iowa Conference Track Performer of the Week for the period ending Feb. 6
Donavin continued an impressive start to the indoor track and field season Saturday at Cornell's Hilltop Open. The senior distance runner won the 800-meter run and anchored the 4x400 relay to a third-place finish.
Donavin established a personal record in taking the 800 title. He topped the 53-man field in 1 minute, 55.23 seconds, a mark that ranks him 14th nationally in Division III this season. Donavin was within .33 seconds of meeting the NCAA provisional standard in the event.
Donavin ran a strong final leg on the 4x400, which finished in 3:33.50. The relay included junior Matt McGowan (Winona, Minn./Winona), freshman Scott Riedel (Marengo/HLV), junior Reed Skoog (Overland Park, Kan./Shawnee Mission South).
Donavin received the same IIAC weekly honor on Jan. 17, after setting a meet record in the 3000 at the Sol Butler Classic in Dubuque.
The Cornell men and women compete at the Grinnell Invitational Saturday in Grinnell
