Apply safety standard equally to all laws

I attended the Marion Chamber breakfast with government officials Jan. 29. How ironic that Kay Lammers read and emphasized the portion of the city's mission statement that promotes a safe and healthy environment in regards to the defeat of banning weapons in city-owned buildings.
Lammers ignored this statement when she, among the city council majority, voted for amending 120.06 A & B, which changes the distance from 300 to 200 feet where alcohol can be sold near churches. This new ordinance excludes day cares. In other words, a bar can be located next to a day care. Steve Sprague, Nick Glew, Mayor Paul Rehn, Joe Spinks, and Lou Stark were also in favor.
It seems to me that excluding day cares from this 200 feet distance does not provide for a safe and healthy environment. You can't use the mission statement for one ordinance and disregard it for another.
