Police are investigating a strong-arm robbery that happened after the victim gave one of the suspects a ride.
Frederick Thompson, 45, of Cedar Rapids, was robbed around noon Wednesday in front of an apartment building at 4006 21st Ave. SW, according to a police report. Thompson told police he gave a man a ride to the parking lot, and when they arrived a second man was waiting.
When Thompson stopped, the man in the lot pulled him out of the vehicle to the ground, police said. The subject who he'd given a ride got out of the car and helped hold him down. The two suspects took his wallet full of cash and ran east toward Edgewood Road SW.
Thompson was not hurt. He told police he had given the man a ride because he thought he recognized him, but did not know his name.
The suspects are described as two black men, one wearing a red sweatshirt with dreadlocks, and the other in his 20s, with a taller and thinner build, wearing a black coat.
Officers scoured the area and brought in a K-9 dog from the Marion Police Department. Police said the dog tracked to a nearby apartment building, but then lost the scent. No arrests have been made.
