Police said they believe a driver had a medical condition and caused a crash Monday along Blairs Ferry Road NE.
Witnesses told police a red car was westbound on Blairs Ferry Road NE around 10 a.m., when it clipped a sport-utility vehicle and then sped off and broadsided another car at the intersection of Blairs Forest Way NE, near the Road Ranger gas station.
The drivers of both cars were taken by ambulance to area hospitals, police said. Firefighters had to remove doors to the vehicle that was broadsided to free that driver. Police said both women were conscious and talking at the scene.
Fred Barnett, 55, of West Monroe, La., said the woman driving the red car was shaking as she crept along near the overpass for Interstate 380. He maneuvered around her, stopped his SUV in front of the median and got out to check on her.
“Before I could get to the car, she jumped the median and caught mine on the right corner,” Barnett said.
Barnett said the car continued west on Blairs Ferry before it struck the other car at the intersection. Names of those involved were not immediately released.
