Tressel's “InAction” Far Worse To Me
Yesterday, Yahoo Sports released a report that Ohio State Head Coach Jim Tressel. knew back in April 2010 about his players selling there gear and other infractions. Tressel obviously did not report any of it and nothing was done until the school found out in November. Since then, 5 Ohio State football players have been suspended for the first 5 games of this coming 2011 season. There are also rumors of that being changed to 4 games possibly but that's a whole other discussion.
Honestly, this makes me sick. Kirk Ferentz came under loads of media scrutiny for the “Rhabdo” situation and his “inaction” once it was all released. People felt he was wrong for not protecting his players. For not caring about people's sons and their health. And not being by their side when it all went down.
Obviously a player's health is vital, I understand that but did Kirk's actions allow his players to lie, cheat and hide from something they did? No.
Jim Tressel's “inaction” in my opinion is far worse.
I am not a parent but someday I hope to be, and when I am I would much rather have my kid working his butt off to get better. If a sickness is a part of that, it will suck and I would be upset if it was due to someone not watching over him/her.
But what I would be more upset about is if a person I have entrusted to my kid, to help them make good decisions then empowers them to be a liar, cheater and a fraud.
If my kid goes to a neighbor's backyard when he's 10 years old, jumps off a fence and breaks his arm, yes I would be upset that the neighbor was not watching him.
I would be much more upset if the neighbor told him to go to a gas station, steal some candy and not tell anyone.
I really hope something is done to Tressel and Ohio State for this. Bowl sanctions, scholarships it really doesn't matter. I just think that something needs to teach them a lesson, obviosuly there coach isn't.
