Think big, approve one-cent local sales tax

I have lived in Cedar Rapids and Marion for 46 years. Never have I seen a city like Cedar Rapids shoot down ideas and approaches to bigger and better things.
We had a mayor during and after the flood who was totally in reverse. Now that we have some promise in our city government, people seem not to digest what is good for our city.
Dick Fredericks (“The mayor isn't selling the sales tax extension,” March 1 letter) quotes some numbers of some dam failures. He surely is smart enough to know that there is possible failure in everything on earth. He probably will pay $15 for a steak or $25 for a delicious lobster dinner or possibly $4 for a gallon of gas, but can't pay one little red cent on every dollar to help rebuild our roads, schools and many other things.
Come on, people. Work with our new city government instead of against them. We definitely need the one-cent tax.
