Work resumes today on First Avenue, Collins Road improvements
Construction work starting today will slow traffic at one of the busiest intersections in Cedar Rapids: the corner of Collins Road and First Avenue NE.
The work will shut down the inside lanes of First Avenue, both eastbound and westbound, from Collins Road south to Cedar Memorial Cemetery. Drivers should expect delays in the area.
Crews are taking out the median, adding right turn lanes and widening left lanes.
It's part of a $7.5 million dollar overhaul of the intersection.
Next week, construction will begin on Collins Road NE from Twixt Town Road to First Avenue.
Federal stimulus dollars will pay for some of the project.
