WAUKON - Another Eastern Iowa school district has joined the 1:1 computer initiative program.
All seventh- through 12th-grade students in the Allamakee school district will be issued personal laptops for the 2011-2012 school year. All teachers in the school district will be issued the computers as well.
The district's participation in the 1:1 initiative was approved by the school board members at the March 1 meeting, but the district has been in the planning stages for this initiative for the past year.
The student laptops will be purchased using funds from the statewide 1 percent sales tax and the district's physical plant and equipment levy. Local taxes will not increase from the initiative.
