IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Graduate teaching and research assistants at the University of Iowa are in line for 2 percent raises in July under a union contract up for approval by the Board of Regents.
Members of COGS, a labor union affiliated with the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America, negotiated a two-year contract with the state in February. Their members voted to accept the plan last month, and the regents could give final approval during Wednesday's meeting in Ames.
The deal would increase their wages by 2 percent July 1 and by 2.5 percent the following year. The minimum scholarships TAs and RAs receive would also increase to about $3,800 per semester, enough to cover tuition in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
