IOWA CITY – The City Council's work sessions will now start an hour earlier.
Mayor Matt Hayek this week proposed changing the traditional 6:30 p.m. start time for Monday work sessions to 5:30 p.m.
He said the later time often forces city staff needed at the meetings to either stay at work until the meeting or go home for a quick dinner and then rush back. He and other council members said they often were in the same situation.
Work sessions typically occur the Monday before a regular council meeting. They are a chance for the council to receive information from staff and discuss items in depth.
