Iowa City is lucky to have the University of Iowa Huntington's Disease Society of America Center of Excellence, one of the top research and clinical care centers for Huntington's disease (HD) in the country.
HD is a devastating hereditary brain disorder that affects the mind and body, and there is no treatment or cure yet. The center provides a biweekly clinic for individuals with HD, as well as a monthly support group meeting and numerous ongoing research studies.
The HD Society of America (HDSA) funds 21 centers of excellence throughout the United States like the one at the UI. You can support the HDSA by attending the 2011 HDSA Iowa City Hoop-A-Thon today, from 1 to 4 p.m. at West High School in Iowa City.
The event features a free-throw shooting contest, silent auction and raffle, Nintendo Wii contest and entertainment by the UI's a cappella group, “Intersection” and the “UI Breakers” dancers.
Support this important cause. To learn more about the event or HD, visit www.ichoopathon.com.
