HEALTHIEST: Let's toast Delaware County with a glass of low-sodium vegetable juice. Residents of the Eastern Iowa county ranked No. 1 in the state in the County Health Rankings, an annual study by the University of Wisconsin and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Researchers looked at the rate of people dying before age 75, the percentage of people in fair or poor health and several other factors, including rates of smoking, obesity and excessive drinking, and access to health care resources.

THANKS, GOVERNOR: Former Gov. Chet Culver's efforts to assist governments recovering from the 2008 flood through creation of the I-JOBS fund was especially apparent in Linn County, where $13 million in aid is helping the county rebuild or replace several buildings. County supervisors unanimously agreed to honor Culver with his name recognized somewhere in the new Community Services Building.

GOOD SO FAR: Since opening last summer, an experimental police substation's presence is helping reduce crime on Iowa City's southeast side, police and many residents say.
