Budget cut targets are backward
The Gazette Opinion Staff

I agree it is time to make cuts to the state budget. Just like I do with my family budget, I ignore all of the biggest expenses and focus on a small portion of the budget. I'm glad the Republicans have the guts to take on those wealthy teachers, firefighters and snowplow drivers.
Why can't we support those poor CEOs who are struggling to pay the mortgage on their fourth homes? Why shouldn't we give money to companies who come to our state with low-paying jobs? For too long, our residents have had it too easy in this state - knowing they could trust their children to go to good schools, drive on good roads and have a public safety net to help them get back on their feet if they hit unexpected hard times.
When we have rainy day funds, we should not be laying off government workers who serve the public for lower pay than private workers.
