Kernels rally late to top Wisconsin, 6-4

The Kernels overcame a 4-0 Wisconsin lead to down the Timber Rattlers 6-4. The Kernels put across four runs in the 6th inning and then two runs in the 8th for the win.
David Harris had a huge night offensively. He went 3-4 with 3 RBI. Harris also scored two times. The big hit came in the 6th inning. Harris cleared the bases with a three RBI double, cutting the Wisconsin lead to 4-3. The hit chased Timber Rattler starter Matt Miller. The following Kernel hitter, Ricky Alvarez, hit a RBI single against reliever Stosh Wawrzasek to score Harris, tying the game 4-4.
In the 8th inning Ryan Jones reached on an error by first baseman Cody Hawn. He later scored on a RBI single by Alvarez, making the score 5-4. David Harris would also score in the 8th inning on a passed ball by the Timber Rattler catcher, Tyler Roberts.
With the Kernels leading 6-4, closer Kevin Johnson picked up his first save of the season by pitching a scoreless 9th inning. Donn Roach (3-0) picked up the win in relief. Roach went three innings in relief, allowing no runs on two hits.
Kernel starter Suammy Baez exited in the 4th inning, allowing three runs on three hits. He struck out three and walked three. Caleb Graham pitched two innings in relief, allowing one run on one hit. Timber Rattler starter Matt Miller went 5.1 inning, allowing four runs on four hits. He struck out five and walked three.
The Kernels conclude a four game homestand Thursday night in Cedar Rapids. 2011 magnet schedules, courtesy of Mercy Care Community Physicians, will be passed out to all fans during Opening Week, April 11-14.
