Family planning saves country money
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Apr. 23, 2011 10:27 am
Thank you to Rep. Dave Loebsack, D-Iowa, for voting against the measure that would have taken funding away for women's health care.
Planned Parenthood provides health services to thousands of Iowa men and women, including birth control, cancer screenings and annual health exams. Funding for birth control also reduces unintended pregnancies and the need for abortion.
This bill was passed in the House under the guise of budget reductions, but family planning saves money. Studies show that every $1 invested in family planning saves $4. Even though this bill passed the House, I wanted to thank our House representative for voting to protect the health of a woman and her family, and support fiscally responsible decisions.
