There’s another way to prevent flooding

I voted no on the sales tax extension. It always seemed very unfair to funnel flood water through downtown Cedar Rapids and pass our problem on to our fellow Iowans living downstream.
I liked the article in The Gazette last year that talked about the state finding farm land upstream for collection areas for flood water. It would be a lot cheaper to pay a farmer the loss of a crop when we have an epic flood.
Second, I don't like the idea of taking money from the feds. Hopefully the political climate will get us back to the Constitution in which each state was considered an experiment in self-government. I would like to see the state and local governments working together to solve our problems.
