An Iowa City man was arrested after police say he made threats to blow up an ATM machine at Wells Fargo Bank in Iowa City on Tuesday.
Norman L. Christy, 52, of 429 Southgate Avenue, allegedly threatened a bank teller by saying he would blow up the ATM machine after he was told that his bank account balance was negative $15 due to ATM service fees. Christy believed that he had a balance of slightly more than $8 in the account and intended to withdraw it, Iowa City Police said.
Reports indicate that Christy became agitated and disorderly, and the teller believed that he was going to carry out the threat.
Christy was being held at the Johnson County Jail on a $7,500 bond Wednesday morning.
Christy's statement was treated as a bomb threat. Making threats is a class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a $7,500 fine.
