Apartment fire injures one, displaces 11 in NW Cedar Rapids
An overnight fire at an eight-unit apartment complex has left eleven occupants displaced, including one tenant that was injured.
Shortly after 1:30 Sunday morning, firefighters were called to 226 27th Street NW for a fire in an apartment bedroom. When firefighters arrived on scene at the two-story apartment complex, there were flames showing from a lower apartment bedroom window.
Smoke quickly filled six other apartments in the complex. More than 20 people were affected by the fire and one woman was transported to Saint Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
Three dogs and one cat died in the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
