Urban growth plan should be applauded

It's fantastic to read the June 11 story about urban growth when much of our news is focused on the negative economy. I applaud the creativity and energy of the Matthew 25 co-directors who continue to strive to maintain and grow neighborhoods that were devastated by the 2008 flood.
This plan will bring life back to empty lots. Matthew 25 has a record of developing inclusive programs that encourage neighbors to rebuild.
Cedar Rapids has an opportunity to revitalize and transform a flood-impacted neighborhood into a thriving community. The concept of creating the urban farm within the village is yet another way to encourage neighbors to be outdoors and enjoy a true sense of community.
