Financial decisions on library are outrageous

Fifty million dollars for a library is outrageous in this day of computers and communications. Now we learn that we will need at least another $1 million a year to keep the doors open.
Also, the library board apparently doesn't care if we can save hundreds of thousands of dollars by waiting two months to start building. They want their new “digs” just as quick as they can get them. Maybe they are afraid we might change our minds.
For $50 million, we could buy a new laptop computer for every school-age child in Cedar Rapids, Marion, Hiawatha, College Community and Kirkwood Community College, with millions left over to build a smaller, more efficient library for those looking to keep warm.
