Surprise checks catch alcohol violations at 10 Marion businesses

Marion police say alcohol checks "off the beaten path" netted a surprising amount of violations.
Police used a person under age 21 to try to buy alcohol from 21 businesses in Marion Thursday. Ten of those businesses sold to the underage person.
Police routinely conduct compliance checks, but they say finding 10 violations out of 21 businesses is an unusually high rate. Marion police say this time, officers went to businesses not often targeted in the alcohol checks.
Each violation carries a $735 fine for both the business and the employee who actually sold the alcohol to the underage person.

The following businesses sold alcohol to a person under the age of 21.
- Campbell Steele Gallery - 1064 7th Avenue
- Casey's General Store - 1100 Eagleview Drive
- Guppy's On The Go - 680 Lindale Drive
- Hunters Ridge Golf Course - 2901 Hunters Ridge Road
- Indian Creek Country Club - 2401 Indian Creek Road
- Michello's Pizzeria - 808 7th Avenue
- Naso's Pizza - 453 7th Avenue
- Ramsey's Metro Market - 1120 7th Avenue
- Villa's Patio - 433 7th Avenue
- Wheel'er In - 895 Blairs Ferry Road
