Washington has a number great commercial and community building projects going on right now. Here is a sample.
Washington High School
The Washington Community School District is building a new High School, integrating the existing Jr. High to become a 9-12 grade facility on Washington's south side. The facility was designed by SVPA Architects of West Des Moines, and the construction manager is Carl A Nelson Company. The facility will open for the 2012-13 school year and feature geothermal HVAC. The $15 Million construction project was financed through a SILO sales tax revenue bond, and no property taxes.
The District is also finishing up a energy efficiency update to Stewart Elementary, that includes new geothermal HVAC, new windows, lighting, plumbing updates, that will make the 1934 building a real gem again.
Mercy Family Practice of Washington
The $4 Million new clinic building for Mercy Family Practice of Washington is on track to be ready to open by Labor Day. The medical clinic currently occupies 8,000 s.f. of space in the Washington County Hospital and Clinic facility a few blocks away. This facility also will utilize geothermal HVAC.
Archer Appliance
Archer Appliance is relocating from downtown to Washington's east side on Hwy. 92 onto a 1 acre lot in front next to the USDA Service Center. The new building will be 50% larger than the current building, which is actually owned by the adjacent Washington Community Y.
The building is being built by Greiner Buildings, with HVAC by Armstrong Heating and Air, and plumbing by Washington Plumbing.
McDonalds
Kevin O'Brien's Creative Management, Inc. has decided to do a $900k refresh of his current McDonalds restaurant in downtown Washington on Hwy. 92. Utilizing the existing building, it is getting a new facade, new drive-through system, and remodeled seating and kids play area.
Other Downtown Upgrades
There are several great building updates going on in downtown Washington this summer. TK Enterprises is completing some tuck pointing work on the Coffee Corner building on the South side of the Square. Several downtown property owners have been completing similar work in the past few years, which has really made the Main Street district really shine.
Later this week, I'll post some exciting updates on two new residential projects, and an industrial expansion.
I'll get around to some posts about projects starting in other parts of Washington County soon. All of this makes Washington County the
Corridors Southern Destination.
