BRANDON - All members of a family escaped safely, Saturday afternoon, after their SUV burst into flames.
The SUV was headed north on Interstate 380 near mile marker 53, when flames fully engulfed it.
The Brandon Fire Department was dispatched around 5:00 p.m., and quickly extinguished the fire, a Buchanan County sheriff's deputy said. One hour later the strong smell of the SUV's charred carcass still lingered in the air.
No injuries were reported, and family members declined to be interviewed. The deputy on scene said the vehicle's driver speculated that its transmission had sparked the fire. The deputy had no further information.
