It's 70's Night tonight as the Kernels host game three of our series with Bowling Green at Perfect Game Field. On July 15, 1977, Mike Vail (Cedar Rapids Cardinals – 1972) was perfect at the plate going 4-4 with a HR, a RBI and scored two runs as the New York Mets defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-1.
Mike Vail hit .279 with 34 HR and 219 RBI during his ten year MLB career playing for the New York Mets, Cleveland Indians, Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, San Francisco Giants, Montreal Expos and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Mike Vail hit .243 with 7 HR in 61 games with the 1972 Cedar Rapids Cardinals. The team finished in 8th place with a record of 51-77 under manager Gary Geiger.
