Stranger offers child candy near Taft Middle School

CEDAR RAPIDS – Police said Thursday that a stranger near Taft Middle School offered a child candy, which the child refused.
Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said she is still gathering details on the case, but she confirmed that a person in a black four-door car with a missing hubcap allegedly approached a child near E Ave. and Owen Street NW, offering candy. The child refused the offer and ran away.
Hamblin said parents of students at Taft Middle School received automatic phone calls notifying them of the incident.
