VINTON - The sexton of Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton is asking for volunteers today to help clean up storm damage.
“It's changed my life, everybody in Vinton's life,” Tim Fuchs said of the windstorm that blew through the area earlier this month.
Fuchs said he was proud of the large trees that stood high in the cemetery because they provided shade and comfort. But the grounds are now scattered with fallen trees and other debris, and he can't clean up all 50 acres alone.
“At least 30 trees are still down that need picked up,” he said Friday.
He's asking for volunteers to come to the cemetery beginning at 9 a.m. today - bringing rakes, chain saws, trucks and any other useful equipment - to help remove what the storm left behind.
