Unions essential to American middle class
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jul. 27, 2011 1:16 pm
Labor unions are under attack by Republican governors across the country. The reason is that unions are the only organized opposition to the extreme right of the Republican party, which is doing its best to destroy the American middle class.
The unions' contributions to the middle class include minimum wages, 40-hour workweek, elimination of child labor, workplace safety, paid vacations and pushing for universal health care - among many other benefits.
Whether you like them or not, unions are essential to the welfare of the American middle class.
