Mayor’s remarks out of line
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jul. 29, 2011 12:14 pm
The mayor's jab at Ellis Harbor and the Cedar Boat Club was not warranted at the council meeting July 12.
While discussing agenda item 28 - report on bids for the Ellis Harbor Dock Repairs project - the mayor quipped: Had the harbor and boat club been checked with to see if they were willing to pay for the repairs?
I am sure this was referring to the pot holes they had fixed on their own after many requests to the city and many lame promises to do the repairs from the city.
I also would like to say the idea of dock repairs in the Ellis Harbor I am sure infuriates many residents as I would be. It is unfortunate that the real repairs are to the walks/steel wall damaged by floodwaters and have no relation to any dock in the Ellis Harbor. I am also sure the money spent have been approved for FEMA reimbursement. After the repairs are made, the city will be able to rent the stalls affected, and will not have to worry about injuries to city residents using the walks or lawsuits.
As stringent as FEMA is I am sure everyone realizes if it is FEMA approved it is needed.
