Legislators must curtail spending
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jul. 29, 2011 12:17 pm
Tuesday's doomsday, as prophesied by President Obama and his treasury secretary, is a scare tactic but not to be ignored. Pay the necessary accounts not those not mandatory. Social Security, military, U.S. debts to China and elsewhere and others of these types have funds to cover them. Foreign aid, Planned Parenthood, AARP, another stimulus, frivolous legislative accounts and others should be held in abeyance until members of Congress decide to enforce their individual oaths of office.
The catch is that President Obama and his treasury secretary have authority to determine who gets paid and who doesn't get paid. Should they pay the first listed (Social Security, etc.) the nation's credit standing will not suffer. However, should they pay those that could be delayed, the nation's credit will be in the red.
Our elected legislators must curtail spending by a large amount and never raise taxes while unemployment is rampant. Future employers must have information as to federal regulations in order to determine their standing as to income or red lining indebtedness. Party politics must be ignored and common sense assumed by all our elected officials and by the citizen voice. Our belts must be tightened until we can overcome the tremendous financial hurt. The answer is decrease in the outgoing, a review of federal need with an increase in taxation.
Is it time for three fourths of the states to reign in national costs to the necessary level in accordance with the U.S. Constitution? Let's look at the 16th Amendment.
