Lowering flag honors soldier’s full sacrifice

Regarding the issue of lowering flags to half staff, the Rev. Victor Ogden's response on July 27 hit the nail on the head.
Does it really matter if you do or do not know the soldier who is being honored? A soldier just died in service to your beloved country. By lowering your flag, it shows respect for the soldier and his or her ultimate sacrifice.
You have the right to not say the Pledge of Allegiance in schools and to refuse to remove your hat when the colors are being presented. But who gave you those rights? An American soldier, not the lawmakers - the common man (or woman) who stepped up and decided America is worth fighting for and preserving what our forefathers saw in it.
I ask that everyone - no matter your religion, political views, age or race - open your eyes, mind and heart for this great place. We're all here together claiming the freedoms of America.
Thank a veteran; without soldiers' selfless service and sacrifices, you would not have what you have today. May Old Glory fly high forever, unless the governor orders it not to. God Bless America!
