Engineering salaries remain some of the best of any field for graduates with a bachelor's degree, according to Phil Jordan, director of engineering professional development at the University of Iowa College of Engineering. He said entry starting salaries rose 2.5 percent in 2011, after dipping 1.7 percent in 2010 for the first time in recent years.
Starting salaries of UI engineering graduates averaged $60,464, in 2011, Jordan said, with the 2.5 percent increase the largest seen since the fall 2009 survey.
“The market is not 2008, but it is a lot better than 2010,” Jordan said. “Even in 2010, you had a lot of competition for engineers.”
