Braley, Harkin want to spend, but funds bare
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Sep. 2, 2011 12:28 pm
Bruce Braley (1st District Congress) and Sen. Tom Harkin think we need more federal investment to jump start the sluggish economy. Is it ever going to dawn on these two that the cupboard is bare, that they cannot spend their way to prosperity?
Do they even consider the national debt as they salivate over spending money they do not have? To those who think it is the government's job to “give us the skills,” it's not the government's job, it's yours. To those who think that the government is not pouring enough taxpayer money into funding your continuing education, too bad; you want a degree, then you pay for it.
The Harkins and the Braleys of Congress are continually elected by those who expect a free ride or at the very least a subsidized ride for life. Do I think these two really care about anything but the next election?
