OFFICIALLY GONE: It's sad to see the Cedar Rapids Science Station officially exit its home along the Cedar River. The organization, which has operated a smaller Science Center in Lindale Mall after the 2008 flood, plans to sell two buildings and end its city lease of the former firehouse in the complex, dousing hopes of developing something bigger, better and bolder at the site. New restrictions on state I-JOBS funding was a factor. Science Station officials are studying other options.

MORE RAIN: After a generally wet spring that extended through most of June, it's been pretty dry with above-normal temperatures in Iowa - in fact, the state crop report issued last week indicated that most of Iowa needs rain to help soybeans mature and relieve stress on other crops.

NO TV: Disappointing that there was no live television coverage when two of the state's three major university football teams played each other Saturday night in Ames. Surely Northern Iowa vs. Iowa State University would have been a better choice for many fans in this state than other games offered on various network and cable stations.
