By Dana Kramer: I was home alone when I found out about the attacks.
My husband had already left for work. I got up, started my coffee and turned on the TV. The first thing I saw was the first tower smoking following the crash and Diane Sawyer talking about something happening but not sure what.
While I was watching and listening, all the sudden I could see a plane approaching and watched in total disbelief and horror as it crashed into the second tower. I truly could not believe that I was seeing what I was seeing!
That is when they knew that the first crash was no accident. The morning just continued to turn more surreal as the Pentagon and the crash in Pennsylvania happened. I completely freaked out.
No one knew if more attacks were coming or where. I was attending Kirkwood at the time and would not go to class for a couple of days because there were so many rumors about possible targets.
The best memory of that time, though, was how the nation came together. We forgot about our petty problems in the scope of what took place. Neighbor helped neighbor; friends and families that were distant reconnected to each other; we rediscovered how much we love this country.
The sad thing is those feelings did not last. We are back to fighting among ourselves, thinking we are untouchable, complaining about anything that slows our own personal rat race down.
Pick up the clue phone, people! Did 9/11 teach us nothing?
