Cedar Rapids Xavier is in control of the Mississippi Valley Conference's Valley Division race thanks to a strong second round.
The Saints posted a 306 at Gates Park Golf Course to win the second round of the MVC Valley Division meet Monday in Waterloo. Cedar Falls was second with 318.
Xavier's score, combined with a 286 from the MVC Super Meet at Twin Pines in August, gives the Saints a 592 total going into the final round of the three-round divisional competition. They lead Cedar Falls by 13 strokes overall with the final round Monday, Sept. 26 at Airport National Golf Course.
J.P. King led the way with a 75 and Jason Beer and Matt Junge each added a 76 for the Saints. Ben Sagers rounded out Xavier's score with a 79.
King's score was good for a runner-up finish for medalist honors. He finished two shots back of Dubuque Hempstead's Carson Hillery. Beer and Junge tied for third with Jacob Bermel of CedarFalls.
