A male student reported he was assaulted and robbed at the Mayflower residence hall Tuesday, but that a Good Samaritan helped him recover his property after the incident.
According to a UI news release, the student told authorities that he was confronted by a man wearing a ski mask as he was leaving the northeast entrance of the building at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The man punched the student in the back of the head, causing minor injuries, and attempted to rob him.
A Good Samaritan, described as being an older male between the ages of 40 and 50 and possibly going by the name of "Mark" or "Clark," intervened during the incident. As a result, the resident was able to get his wallet back from the suspect.
The suspect is described as a black male, between the ages of 25 and 30, approximately six feet tall and weighing 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing all black clothing and black Nike-style basketball shoes. He also had a design in his hair on the right side of his head, University of Iowa police said.
Police are seeking anyone with knowledge about the incident, including the identity of the Good Samaritan, who is described to be 5 feet 10 inches tall, 170 pounds with light brown hair and a thin silver mustache.
Those with information about Tuesday's incident should call UI police at 319-335-5022. Students are also encouraged to use the main entrances as points to come and go from the residence halls on campus, according to the news release.
