Working beyond retirement hurts us all

David DeWitte's Sept. 5 article, “More Eastern Iowa workers sticking it out past retirement,” claims that it is better for people to work beyond retirement age.
This does not help industries or the retirement-age employees who work past their retirement. Later in life, it's harder for a lot of them to work and be happy.
The state of the economy is to blame for this trend. Yes, some people love what they do; however, in my opinion, the government is depriving many of their golden years. Because the government allows politicians to protect themselves against financial loss at retirement, it's not looking out for the people who got these politicians to where they are.
Americans over 65 should not have to worry about how they will be able to continue working another 10 years with the fear of health problems. This working-longer syndrome also makes it difficult for young workers to find jobs in some fields.
The government leading retirement-age people to believe their Social Security and Medicare benefits are at risk is an injustice to Americans.
