Israel is violating international law
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Sep. 24, 2011 12:07 am
The media has been drilling the point that the Palestinian push for U.N. recognition as a state solves nothing and the issues that divide Israel and the Palestinians will still need to be resolved through negotiations. Every channel seems to be marching out a multitude of “experts” who say that even if they achieved their aim of getting U.N. recognition, it would change nothing.
Well, if it means nothing, then why not let them have it? Why are we promising a veto of a meaningless resolution when doing so during the middle of this Arab spring will only anger the people of the region?
I hope the people who make American flags are working overtime because if we veto this measure, the Middle East will ignite with the burning of our flags in every major city in the region.
The real reason we will veto any recognition is because if a State of Palestine exists, then Israel will no longer be able to ignore Article 33 and Article 49 of the Geneva convention. The big deal here is Israel has been in violation of international law for decades. Israel has no intentions of abandoning the settlements in the occupied territories and they need Palestinians to agree they don't have to before a state of Palestine exists or they face charges in the world courts for war crimes.
Our support for a country that is in direct violation of so many international laws is shameful!
