Western Iowa motorists rescue trucker from burning rig

Motorists who stopped to help have saved a trucker from his burning big rig on Interstate 29 in Council Bluffs.
The trucker lost control of his semitrailer around 9:15 a.m. Sunday and ran into a bridge support near the 35th Street exit.
Council Bluffs Fire Department Capt. Chris Sorensen says the truck's diesel tanks ruptured. Crates carrying apples and onions also fueled the fire, which began in the trailer and spread forward to the tractor.
The motorists used a pry bar to rescue the driver. He was identified as a Washington man, Pavel Plevako.
The accident cause is being investigated.
