Notable- West Branch is making its fourth straight state semifinal appearance, second only to Madrid (2007-11) for the longest semifinal streak in 11-man football. Saint Ansgar reached the semifinals for the second time in school history, losing to Montezuma in 2006. Both have taken similar roads to this point, riding a nine-game winning streak and avenging a loss in the quarterfinals. West Branch knocked off No. 7 Alburnett, 21-13, and Saint Ansgar upset No. 3 Aplington-Parkersburg, 27-21. West Branch has averaged 36 points per game on offense, allowing just 14.5 a game with two shutouts. Saint Ansgar tallied 32.2 points per game and gave up a little less than 11. Both teams are powered by the run. West Branch is seventh in 1A with 3,442 rushing yards. Running back Cade Jones is fifth in 1A with 1,740 and has 27 TDs, and Brandon Young has added 655 on the ground. Saint Ansgar is third in 1A in team rushing, powered by Tony Heimer, who has 1,616 yards and 20 TDs. West Branch has an edge in passing behind Young's 859 yards and eight TDs.
