Basketball Hosts Clarion Kirkwood Classic, Nov. 18-19 Nationally ranked teams compete in Johnson Hall this weekend.
The Kirkwood Community College men and women's basketball teams have a tough weekend scheduled for the Clarion Kirkwood Classic. The men bring in NJCAA Division I opponents No. 2 Coffeyville (Kan.), Southeastern and Marshalltown Community College. Competing on the women's side is John Wood (Ill.), Mineral Area (Mo.) and rival Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC).
The No. 15 ranked Kirkwood men's basketball team is off to a 3-1 start this season, losing by only three points to No. 10 John Wood Community College. The Eagles face Marshalltown (4-2) Friday, Nov. 18 in a non-conference matchup. Saturday night the men take on undefeated opponent Southeastern (6-0) at 6 p.m.
The Kirkwood women's basketball team is 2-2, with losses coming from two NJCAA Division I ranked opponents. One of those losses comes from Gulf Coast Community College (4-0) with a No. 2 ranking, and the other came by three points to No. 18 Jefferson College (3-1). The women take on Mineral Area at 4 p.m. Friday, and play John Wood at 2 p.m. Saturday.
