Culver's, an independently-owned garden center and greenhouse on Highway 151 in Marion, announces its participation in this year's Small Business Saturday® on November 26th. The national initiative is in its second year and encourages shoppers to patronize local businesses during the busiest shopping weekend of the season. Customers visiting the gift shop at Culver's that day will enjoy complimentary coffee, cocoa, and baked goods, “It's our way of saying thank you for choosing to shop locally this holiday season,” says Jackie, Culver's merchandising manager.
Falling between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the Small Business Saturday® initiative asks people to pledge to shop at small businesses, even if it's just one store. Landing on the weekend following Culver's annual Holiday Open House, there will be a large selection of Christmas décor, wallet-friendly gifts, winter plants and fresh greens, which can be customized to decorate any outdoor or indoor space. Customers can take advantage of the personal attention and knowledge of the garden center's staff, part of a shopping experience more difficult for large retailers to match. “Our greenhouse staff design with fresh greens, and are always on hand to teach customers how to make a wreath or arrangement,” Jackie explains. “We're asking our customers to shop outside the big-box stores this Saturday. Locally-owned businesses like us can better know the needs of their communities.”
