School kids need to toughen up a little

In regard to the Nov. 2 article “Hand-me-downs” concerning Anamosa West School:
I was amazed that apparently the students expect an elevator in their school. I went all 13 years in that same school and we went up and down the stairs all day, every day, and got our exercise.
It was not just a high school then, it was every grade. There was an older school in front, since torn down, that had grades K2 and then you moved to the “new” building (it was about 75 years old then).
Yes, that was before consolidation and many more students coming to the school, but we all got a good education there and never complained about cold and hot rooms. If it was cold, we wore a sweater. If it was hot, we never let out early, we just suffered through.
I guess we just all did with what we had and didn't expect anymore. What happened to the “good old days?”
