Everything that Cedar Rapids stands for is changing

Is anyone surprised that the city will tear down the old public works building and build a new one? They haven't even decided how to pay for all of it yet.
What the flood didn't destroy the city has. They closed off Second Avenue to build a medical mall when all the doctors had perfectly nice offices but the city agreed to these changes. Plus, they agreed to build a new parking ramp to go along with the mall.
We now own a hotel, soon to have a new events center, which will need a parking ramp. Who decided we need an amphitheater at this time, and a new home for animals? The library picked probably the most expensive site for the library and now they are asking for donations to run it. Why couldn't they have used the old building? TrueNorth has done an awesome job remodeling it.
There again, they are tearing down another part of Cedar Rapids history - the former American Legion building. It's a dirty shame.
Everything that Cedar Rapids stands for is changing. I was proud to say I was from Cedar Rapids. But if my whole family didn't live here, I wouldn't have a problem moving away.
Of all the money that has been spent, they don't have flood protection for when this happens again, and it will happen again.
