Campaigning should not begin until election year

Thank God the Iowa caucuses are over! I have my telephone and mailbox back after hundreds of political phone calls and several pounds of candidate's mail.
Most people when they feel there is an injustice say “there ought to be a law” to correct the injustice. I would like to have a law that says there shall be no campaigning, phone calls, political mailings, fundraising or newspaper articles about possible candidates until after Jan. 1 of the election year.
And we could divide the 50 states up into five groups of 10 by random drawing. On a rotating basis one group would be responsible for holding their primary election on say April 1 of that election year. (April 1 seems like a good choice, for obvious reasons.) Maybe then Iowa would get some peace once in a while. Of course, I put about as much faith in these suggestions ever happening as I do in “Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight. ...”
The candidates' words are new but they still sound like “a chicken in every pot and a car in every garage” from a bygone era.
I've decided on the candidate based on the presentations made in the televised debates. And that is a whole lot less expensive for the candidates.
I have received four political phone calls in the few minutes it has taken to compose this letter. I hate to think about what may be out in the mailbox.
