DES MOINES, Iowa -- A big day by sophomore forward Amanda Frost helped ninth-ranked Mount Mercy overcome 25 turnovers to get its 10th win in a row, a 59-49 victory over AIB, in a Midwest Collegiate Conference contest on Saturday at AIB Activities Center.
The Mustangs (15-4, 7-0 MCC) led by as many as 13 points in the first period then settled for a nine-point halftime advantage. But the Eagles (8-11, 1-6 MCC) wouldn't go away, making it a one-possession game on two occasions after the break. They cut Mount Mercy's lead to three with 6:39 to go before a 17-4 run finished off the Mustangs' seventh straight league win.
Frost was 9-of-14 from the floor and 9-of-10 at the free throw line for a game-high 27 points to go with nine rebounds. Senior guard Emily Greiner added 13 points and five boards, junior guard Brooke Quigley 12 points, six rebounds and four assists. Senior guard Becca Lampe chipped in five boards and five assists.
Caitlin Hagerty led the Eagles with 17 points and nine rebounds. Hannah Redenius scored nine points, India Shivers tallied seven points, seven boards and five assists. Megan Howard grabbed seven rebounds and a game-high five steals.
Mount Mercy begins a three-game homestand against Iowa Wesleyan (9-7, 5-2 MCC) on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Hennessey Recreation Center in Cedar Rapids.
